@walesbotanic has a list of the top 10 spring flowers for honey bees. Of these, 8 are #ForestGarden stalwarts:

  1. Willow (Salix species)
  • Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna)
  • Cotoneaster (e.g Cotoneaster horizontalis)
  • Apple and cherry trees (Malus and Prunus species)
  • Gorse (Ulex europaeus)
  • Sycamore and other Acer species
  • Hellebores (Helleborus species)
  • Dandelions (Taraxacum officinale)
  • Holly (Ilex species)
  • Oak (Quercus species)

And you can always plant cotoneaster and hellebores as “system plants” to attract pollinators, so I make that 10/10 😉

It will be really interesting to see results for different times of the year and for wild pollinators like hoverfly.
